i started getting this after i upgraded libc and libm to 4.7.2 and 4.6.27
respectively. it turns out that lots of different packages expect utmp to
be in lots of different places. sure is nice that unix filesystems
support links. :) i have things that expect to find utmp in /etc,
/var/adm, and /var/run. i keep the real one in /var/adm (since that's
where it was before), but i suppose it doesn't matter where you keep yours
as long as the links make sense.
