I/O Errors on CDROM

Yesterday, I was doing a load test on Linux-1.3.14, and came up with a
possible problem. I was doing 4 concurrent cat /dev/xxx > /dev/null from
two SCSI HD devices (sda, sdb) and two CDROMs (sr0, hdc). The system
performed well, in that it did not hang, however, both CDROMs experienced
I/O errors. If I do cat's from each CD rom independently, with no other
processing going on, the commands completed normally, however
concurrently, there seems to be a problem.
I am running this on a Gateway P5-120, AHA-2940 with NEC 4Xi CDROM
(SCSI), Sanyo 4x CDROM (Three disk changer, can only access platter 0)
and two Seagate SCSI HDs (1 Gig, 2 Gig)
