Disk drive stuff

I've had a couple of questions in the back of my mind for a while and I
think it's time to get around to asking them. :)

1) Is there any particular reason to partition a disk that is going to be
dedicated to Linux? i.e. if I have a second drive in my system that isn't
needed for booting, can I just "mke2fs /dev/hdb" and forget partitioning it?

2) How is partitioning handled on SCSI drives with 1024-byte sectors? Is
partitioning needed there? (this sort of ties in with #1)

3) On drives >8 GB, how is partitioning handled?
