error reading cdrom with 1.3.21

Occassionally with 1.3.21, when I do an ls on a mounted cdrom, no files
appear, even though the disk is full. The only way I've found to get it
to read the drive once it quits is to reboot ;-(. I have a sony cdu-33a,
if that helps.
