Examining kernel namelist for compressed kernel

I just got my first Oops. To be able to provide more info I want to look
up the EIP adress. I run a compressed kernel and neither 'nm' nor 'gdb'
seem to be able to do anything with it. Is there a way to uncompress the
zImage ? I tried with gzip but failed misserably.
