perl stoped tcpip? (1.3.34)

I compiled 1.3.34 last night, and I was quite pleased that
the sound driver inserted itself correctly for the first
time for me...

Then I found something that is still puzzling me. I have
this perl popscript I use to grab my mail with, and it
has never failed me before. I have traced the problem
down to where it connects the socket (it opens the
socket, binds the socket, and when it goes to
connect the socket, it just hangs..) I went back to
1.3.29, the last kernel I took the time to compile,
and it works fine, so it has to be something to do
with the kernel.

Strangely enough, I have 'popclient' the binary
that comes with slackware, and it works fine, as
well as a telnet to port 110 of the popserver...

I am at a loss as to what I should be checking,
perhaps I should re-complile perl? It is version
5.01m, if that helps anybody.

I have 1.3.35 in the 'making' so to speak, so I'll
try that when it's done; just thought I should
mention this pecularity..
