Netscape is unstable on my system, and in fact, it would seem that all
statically-linked motif-based applications are, and I'd like to figure
out why.

What happens is this: I'll be working happily along in Netscape, and all
of a sudden, the system stops reacting to keyboard and mouse-key input.
The mouse pointer continues to respond, and *all running processes
continue to run*! In other words, I've seen an ftp file transfer I had
going in the backgroun continue to normal completion while I was in this
strange pseudo-lockup. The lockup occurs no matter what I set the memory
and disk cache parameters to. The lockup occurs in Mosaic as well as
Netscape, both 1.12 and 2.0. Switching kernels 1.2.x and 1.3.x has no
effect on the problem.

I've tried lots of other newsgroups and mailing lists on this one, and I
know this is slightly off-topic, but... If anybody has any idea what could
be causing this, I'd appreciate hearing about it.
