Outstanding pre-production issues and next dev. cycle...

It looks like we're getting very close to a production release, given
the apparent stability of 1.3.68. So, an obvious question comes to
mind: What priority bugs remain in 1.3.68? Does anyone have a
complete list of what needs to be done before we call it 1.4/2.0?

Along similar lines, now that this development cycle has wound up with
respect to new features, what is being cooked up for the next
development cycle? A couple questions to consider:

1) Performance:
Can we get more performance out of networking?
What other performance bottlenecks exist?
What is being planned to resolve these issues?

2) Modularity
Are there any drivers that could be made to work as modules but
aren't?
Are there any deficencies in the current module scheme?

3) Standards compliance
Where does linux deviate from POSIX? Can/should these areas be
rectified?
POSIX.6?
Others?

4) New/expanded/updated hardware drivers
????

4) Other
BSD ffs?
linux able to run BSD binaries?
anything else?

It might be nice if there were some answers to these questions. It
might give people (like myself) who wish to participate a chance to
see what's planned, what looks interesting, where we might be able to
help, etc.
