sound card help for a newbie?

Hello..

I just upgraded to 1.3.20 (I know, I'm way behind) and am trying to get it working right with my
sound card. I'm running on a 486dx4 100MHz ibm compatible and the sound card is a Mozart card of
some sort. Under dos, I had it set up as a sound blaster and it worked great at the settings:
I/O: 220
IRQ: 5
DMA : 1

I tried these same settings under linux, and no go. it *says* it recognizes and initializes and all
that when I boot, but no sound-using applications (like workman or doom) will work. No sound at all.

I also compiled the same kernel with Mozart device support, and got a little bit better
results...workman played my CD's beautifully, doom still wouldn't play sound, and the card seemed to
make these little either very low pitched or very high-pitched pinging noises once inna while:
particularly when the hard drive was very active...

Can anyone offer me some assistance here? I realize that's not a lot to go on, but even some general
ideas or someone's suggestion who has had similar problems would be excruciatingly helpful. ;)

Thanks...

Bill
