I too have just a 14.4 PPP link and I suffer from prohibitively high
prices that the German Telekom (still a monopoly for private
telecommunication) charges for local telephone calls. Thus I
appreciate the newsgroup de.alt.sources.linux.patches. Thanks to
Thomas and Michael, this moderated newsgroup always carries the most
recent kernel patches and the KCS (kernel change summary). I exchange
news daily and thus I usually get kernel patches with at most a two
day delay. As I receive just the patch files, it does not make much of
a difference, whether the kernel source tree is 2MB or 4MB compressed
size; patches are always a lot smaller. Maybe, your Internet service
provider also carries this newsgroup; if that is not the case, either
ask him to provide the group or organize a CfD and CfV for an
international group that mirrors d.a.s.l.p.
