I don't know if this helps, but using the pentium version of gcc-2.7.2
(p-pl08?) -mpentium -O2 I seem to get the same slow typing behaviour with
telnet/slip as others report. With "-mpentium -O6" telnet rarely (but
occasionally) succeeds in making a connection which locks up sooner or
later. Other packages (ping, ncftp) seem much less bothered with -O6.
(patch-1.3.85 and earlier patches)
