Some Serious 1.3.90 Issues, Again.

I think this mailing list hates me. Here, again is an urgent message about
some question I have about 1.3.90:

1. On a moderately busy system, I get an ever increasing number of hung/
stuck ftpd and tcpd. Eventually the list grows to about 380+, running
the kernel into ``File table overflow'' and the reset button.

a. Is there a way to assure a ROOT shell that is already running a few
fd's so the system can be shutdown (even killall could not run)?

b. What gives? It runs fine with 1.3.77.

2. During boot, we see that modules net_pf{3,4,5} cannot be found.

a. What are these modules?

b. Why are the missing?

c. What does it affect?

3. Also during boot, and throughout, we see:

Ouch, Kerneld timed out, message failed

and:

Ouch, Kerneld: msgsnd wants to sleep at interrupt.

a. Is kerneld still supported? I noticed the mailing list appears
dead on our end.

b. Why does kerneld time out?

c. Why did it not time out in 1.3.77?

d. Why does it want to sleep at interrupt? We all know it is not
polite to do so.

All the above on top of the SCSI wowes you all are too tired to hear about.
The good news there is that Leonard and Mike are doing a terrific job
chasing the problems down.
The sad news is that because of the above items 1,2, & 3, I cannot test
any kernel in the 80-90 series on production loads. They seem to do fine
on test machines.

Any help will be handsomely rewarded with a wide grin and a shout for joy
on my children's part. They will see Daddy again!
