Not sure if this is your problem, but when I upgraded to procps-0.99a, I
had TWO free utils; one in /bin, and the new one in /usr/bin. Of course,
/bin is first in my path, so the old one always got executed.
Try 'whereis free' and see if you show more than one copy.
