Something odd in /proc?

Here are the contents of two /proc/<pid>/status files:

Name: portmap
State: S (sleeping)
Pid: 95
PPid: 1
Uid: 1 1 1 1
Gid: 0 0 0 0
VmSize: 912 kB
VmLck: 0 kB
VmRSS: 56 kB
VmData: 256 kB
VmStk: 8 kB
VmExe: 0 kB
VmLib: 0 kB
SigPnd: 00000000
SigBlk: 00000000
SigIgn: 80000000
SigCgt: 00010002

-- Name: nfsiod
State: S (sleeping)
Pid: 135
PPid: 1
Uid: 0 0 0 0
Gid: 0 0 0 0
SigPnd: 00000000
SigBlk: 00010000
SigIgn: 80000000
SigCgt: 00000000

Both processes are swapped (as far as I can tell).

nfsiod doesn't have an Vm* status fields. What's going on here? 'ps vax'
gives silly numbers in the virtual memory fields for the nfsiod processes,
too, so it doesn't appear to understand, either :-(.

Kernel is 1.99.11; procps is procps version 0.99 (erm, or is that 0.99a?).
