Hey, that's a neato idea. Linux is not commercial and nobody stands to
make any money off of it in most cases, but it should make an effort to be
pretty and have some marketing gimmicks that will impressive people. A few
simple things can be done to pretty it up. Doing something in lilo is the
best way to do it. But I've added some other stuff to my machine to make
it prettier when it boots into X because I often show it off to people
who I'm embarassed to call my friends because they are lose95 lamers. :)
Something like:
/usr/local/bin/xpmroot /usr/X11R6/include/X11/pixmaps/background2.xpm
in /hdb/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0 puts a pretty background behind xdm.
This gives me an idea...perhaps I'll stick a small animation in there as
well. I just need to find an unobtrusive mpeg player the user can't screw
with that will play the animation automatically.
