And also see if you can, just for the diagnostics, set the mode pages o=
f
the drive which control error thresholds to lower values so that the
remapping catches not only data which you can't read any more anyway
(can you say "data loss"?), but also those that are getting worse with
time and are probably going to fail sooner or later.

A reformat also maps out marginal sectors which would pass the usual
write/read/compare diagnostics with ease. For a time.
