I'm new to this list, so forgive me if I break netiquette.
I have a Micron P90 with a Practical Peripherals modem at
com4, an aha1542cf SCSI controller at base_io 0x234, dma 7
and irq 10, and a Paradise Bahamas PCI video adapter that is
apparently taking up IRQ11. I also recently added a
Mediatrix Audiotrix Pro card, but the problem I'm having was
happening even before I got it. It's at dma's 0,1,3 and
base_io's 0x220, 0x330, 0x388 and IRQ's 5&9 (resource
friendly, eh?). (Incidentally, I had to modify the aha1542.c
file so the aha1542cf could be recognized at 0x234, the lilo
argument "aha1542=0x234" didn't work). I'm running Debian
linux 1.1 with a 2.0.12 kernel I compiled myself. I'm
getting error messages when my system periodically hangs
that resemble this text I found on another list:

My error messages I'm sure are not exactly the same, but
they look very similar. My question is:
What can I do to try to troubleshoot this? Is there a
troubleshooting FAQ or something? Is this the right list
for this question? This only happens periodically and I
haven't been able to reliably reproduce it (although the guy
who posted this message said that he reproduced it by using
"shutdown -h now".
