SETUP configurations not preserved by linux

Various cache and memory timing test run with the cache enabled and and
disable seem to show that the cache settings (enable/disable) provided by
the BIOS are not preserved, is this the case? It is difficult to verify
memory timing code without this capability. I could perhaps understand
overiding the SETUP cache disable setting in SMP, but not in UNI.
