When booting kernel 2.1.8, I get the following sequence of messages:

ide: i82371 PIIX (Triton) on PCI bus 0 function 57
ide0: BM-DMA at 0x3000-0x3007
ide1: BM-DMA at 0x3008-0x300f
WDC AC21000H, ATA DISK drive
[some stuff I didn't write down about my CDROM]
ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7, 0x3f6 on irq 14

Partition check:
hda: driver not present
VFS: Cannot open root device 03:02
Kernel panic: VFS: unable to mount root fs on 03:02

2.1.7 boots fine. One difference I have noticed is that
kernel 2.1.7 displays:

WDC AC21000H, 1033MB w/128kB Cache, LBA, CHS=525/64/63, DMA
rather than:
WDC AC21000H, ATA DISK drive

I suspect this problem is caused by the new ide-disk code.
Has anyone seen/fixed this problem?
