I had this same problem except that it in turn after getting it working,
I dont have ATA/ATA-2. So i was running on a buggy interface and it
messed up my whole disk and then in turn when i tried to fix it i ended
up messing with the wrong MB connections and that shorted the power
supply and then when the power supply came back up online it sent a
shockwave through all my hardware and its all in a smouldering
smoke-smelling mess.

*sigh* :) I'm off to go buy a new box ;)
