2.1.14 compilation problem

I've configured sound support as module; I'm using a MAD16 card.
When I try to "make oldconfig", I'm asked for the

MAD16 audio I/O base 530, 604, E80 or F40 (MAD16_BASE) [530] (NEW)

No matter what I reply, I get "Sorry, no help available for this option
yet." (even when I try to leave the line blank and default to 530).

Strange enough, cd /usr/src/linux/drivers/sound
make config

works.
