ifconfig on 2.1.20 multicast kernel?

ifconfig eth0:25 x.x.x.25

The device seems to work fine, but I get hundreds of these messages in
/var/log/messages:

Jan 7 00:53:54 lucid kernel: net alias eth0:35 transmits
Jan 7 00:53:54 lucid kernel: net alias eth0:25 transmits
Jan 7 00:53:54 lucid kernel: net alias eth0:35 transmits
Jan 7 00:53:54 lucid kernel: net alias eth0:25 transmits

Are these messages due to a bug in the kernel, possibly because I have
multicast routing, tunneling, etc enabled? Or is there an extra
configuration step or something I've missed on my part.

A recent study has found that concentrating on difficult off-screen
objects, such as the faces of loved ones, causes eye strain in computer
scientists. Researchers into the phenomenon cite the added concentration
needed to "make sense" of such unnatural three dimensional objects.
