Strange PPP behavior? (fwd)

I was running a few nites ago when I noticed unusual disk activity. I
finally found the following in the /var/log/debug log:

This behavior was definitly related to the ppp link I was running to my
ISP. When I killed the link - it stopped, when I started the link - it
started up again. Anyone have any idea what this was? It hasn't happened
since then. I did not get tcpdump running fast enough to catch what was
coming over the ppp link.
I'm running kernel 2.1.13, setup pretty basic - no experimental
or alpha code. TIA...
