NFS performance ?

I got very bad nfs performance on my system. (And some other systems
as well.) Is this a known problem, is there a solution ?
Running my linux client mounting a solaris2.5.1 server.
My client is a 2.1.20 (have tryed some older 2.1 kernels too)
with libc 5.4.18. With mount options rsize & wsize to 8K.
And I dont get a better result than 180kbyte/s.
solaris to solaris gives 4 times better result on the same
test.
