Interesting! Kernel question..

I downloaded the newest version of linux from ftp.cdrom.com and it didn't
work with my
new cyrix at all, i installed my a bit older version the i had on cd-rom
and it works 100%!
Except no cd support so i was wondering how do you update the kernel on
your installed
linux partition to another one without reinstalling the whole linux?! Sorry
new user to linux! :)
And can i use the same kernel that i used on the install disks!? thanks in
advance...
