Problems with 2.1.24

I've been using kernel 2.0.28 for some time now, and I've got my system
running pretty well. Last week I decided to give it a try to 2.1.24 and it
compiled perfectly. I have updated all that I've heard is needed
(gcc,ld.so,libc,libg++,etc) but the new kernel just won't boot. Well,
actually it boots, mounts the filesystems, but then it will just hang, even
in single user mode.
