I have discovered the same behavior with my Acer Aspire at work
(AMD processor, 16MB memory, PCI bus, umsdos system) since 2.1.24
My "ancient" home Gateway 2000 486/33C runs fine.

This is the oops I get when i try to insmod sysv.o (with insmod 2.1.23)
