Assuming that your terminals are being controlled by a getty or agetty
process spawned through /etc/inittab:

1. First make sure that the control lines for the serial port / cyclades
whatever are in local mode by passing a -L to the agetty i.e., in my
/etc/inittab I have the line:

s1:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty -L 19200 cub0 vt100

2. Second I would get a serial break out box and check the lines on
whatever serial adapter you are using, making sure that TX-->RX, RX-->TX
and you will probably need to have lines 20, 6 and 8 tied together on the
terminal end (of course this all depends on the terminal) e.g.: consult the
documentation.
