Is this really because there are checksum bugs in Solaris and Linux?

The reason this may perhaps seem extremely strange to you is that
other OS's only report this event via SNMP statistics. Go to any BSD
derived system and go netstat -s, on one of my primary multi-user
SunOS boxes I see:

tcp:
[ ... ]
7 discarded for bad checksums
[ ... ]

This machine has been up roughly 7 hours.
