Prob: DEPMOD create blank modules.dep

I use v2.1.30 with modutils-970320 and have some problems.

depmod -a generates an empty modules.dep file even though

TYPE /lib/modules/2.1.30/...

messages appear on the console. depmod -a -v -d produces
the same result.

Any ideas? I think I'm up to date on all the various utilities.
