I tried the Linux-scsi list but got no response so I thought I'd try
here. I'm really stuck so any input would really be apreciated.

Thanks

Tom

Hello,

I'm not a member of this list, but I hope someone can help me anyway.
Several years ago we bought a Dell Optiplex XMT 575 (p75) with an
Adaptec 2940 scsi adapter and a Seagate ST410800N 9 gig drive. Back
then I tried installing Linux on it and just gave up; and installed
Linux under DOS (it ran like a dog). Now I want to put up a News
server, so I'm trying it again. If I try installing from the Slckware
CD (BTW, the CD ROM is SCSI also), I get the message:

end_request: I/O error, dev 01:00, sector nnnnnnn

where nnnnnnn is a number between 0 and 4194300. If I try to boot with
a boot diskette, it comes to the boot: prompt, but no matter what I
enter, I get:

Error 0x10

Can someone tell me how I can use this card and drive together. I know
my hardware is okay, this machine was our SOCKS server for a year, but
again it ran UMSDOS Linux.

Thanks,

Tom
