I know. It slipped through the cracks for 2.1.35 (which Linus released
sooner than I thought) but it should be fixed in 2.1.36. Sorry about

The plug and play stuff _should_ be harmless. It doesn't need any support
from your motherboard or parallel card - whether it does anything useful
or not is just a function of the device you have connected to the port.
If your printer or whatever supports IEEE1284, you should see something
like this in your boot messages:

parport0: printer, Laserjet 4L (Hewlett-Packard)

... and if not, you will probably get

parport0: no IEEE-1284 device present
