Just as an FYI, I run XFree86 v3.2 at home, with a pre2.0.30 kernel (ran
2.0.29 before that) on a Pentium-90 with 16 MB RAM. I have an S3 86c868
based video card, and have NEVER had this particular problem, or anything
similar. I am using Slackware 3.1, with fairly hacked up init scripts. It
works just fine in X, so I don't think it's the kernel. If you are using
XF 3.2A, it MIGHT have something to do with that, or it might be related
to the distribution you use. Might want to just make a quick check, and
make sure that it's not related to either of those.
