V2.1.35 hang after lilo's "booting kernel"

I saw this thread a few days ago and passed by because my home machine
works fine. But, when I tried it at work on a Dual Pentium, SCSI machine
no joy. I think I got all the utility upgrades recommended on LinuxHQ.

Can someone remind me what to fix?
