I am told by BioStar that my BIOS and mb is K6 compatable, RedHat
supplied no additional info except to sugest I contact a 'kernel' list.
AMD indecated they tested on 1.0.9 and "Linux Sam Publishing v3.0".
I have installed Win95 and NT on it to verify that it is. They work fine.
Currently the system only has linux on it.
So the details:
I crashes during the boot process. Basicly I get a
"General Protection: 0000"
fault with a Opps dump. I cant print or grab the screen so I have to
write as much as I can before resets or, if running the RH4.1 boot disk,
enters setup. The stuff I have copied from the screen is:
CPU: 0
EIP: 0010bcfa
EFlags: 00010046
Process swapper (pid 0)
Traceback: 00109828 0010a805 0010942c 001091e9
Code: 07 cf fc 06 1e 50 52 51 ba 18 00 00 00 66 8e da x66 8e c2 e4
I dont have the RH4.1 Boot disk symbols but I looked at the 2.0.27
symbol files supplied and am guessing the traceback decodes as:
start_kernel -> init -> sys_call -> sys_idle (dies in here)
and the codes disassembled as:
popl %es
iret
cld
pushl %es
pushl %ds
pushl %eax
pushl %edx
pushl %ecx
movl $0x18,%edx
movw %dx,%ds
movw %dx,%es
inb $0x0,%al
addb %al,(%eax)
addb %bh,%bh
but not sure where to go from here.
please help,
