Why not make a tiny second stage booter? Then you can launch any size
kernel once you've got around braindead PC ISA architecture. Obviously,
it's worthwhile to have bzImage for floppies, but otherwise, a unlimited
size kernel is good.

Almost every other Intel based unix or unix look alike uses this strategy.
