Please help with lan problems

I am haveing a problem, hopeing that some one can tell me what the
problem is. I am running kernal 2.1.37 and the problem is that when I
went to this new kernal, my wifes computer (on the lan) will not work on the net
I did run tcpdump and see that the requests are going to the net (va the linux
firewall). When I use ver 2.0.30 every thing was fine, the only reason the I
went to the newer ver is that my lan card is a pci card and the support for it
was in the 2.1.* kernals. Also I have seen that when she trys to run Netscape
it just says looking up * , any help would be great (so she gets off my back)
