Why ? Just pick a boot parameter name for the rootfs label and let initrd
handle it. If the label isn't found, it can always fall back to something
else.
By the way, somebody said that not all file systems support volume labels.
That's true, but we can always create a naming convention for a regular
file containing the volume label, e.g. <mount>/.volume_label or even
<mount>/VOLUME.LBL ;-), so at least all the usual r/w disk devices could
be handled.
