Hummm... one of my students tried a couple of times to install linux on her
PC, and came up with a scheme with /dev/hda12 too... but this partition
only gave grief: It dissapeared, or the partition table got screwed up, or
whatever. This was RedHat 4.1. I don't remember further details, and the
setup is long gone. The /dev/hda12 was inside /dev/hda4 in this case,
/dev/hda[1-3] where regular partitions, /dev/hda{5,...,12} inside
/dev/hda4.
Might not be at all relevant, but...
