Linux kernels with dentry code do NOT support msdos & vfat
filesystems. I wrote Gordon Chaffee, and he is a little too
busy right now to keep with the bleeding edge kernels.

I looked at doing the work myself, then decided I should be
working on UDF filesystem support instead.

Somebody might want to do the dentry update themselves.
