Try using 2.0.30 on a desktop with limited memory some time.

My 486/100 with 8Meg (+16Meg swap) locks up tight and solid with 2.0.30
when I simply do : tar -xvzf linux-2.0.30.tar.gz

applying the pre2 patch, Werner's Aug01 and the IMMUTABLE patch seems to
have fixed that for me. (but of course i had to compile
the kernel on a different machine ;-)

but in general I feel 2.0.30 is quite stable on my machine with
64Meg+128swap.
