I guess I either had a reference indicating that the valid range was
only 2-0xfef, or I mis-interpreted it. The DOS book I currently use
(sorry, don't remember the title - it's at home) agrees with your
findings and doesn't mention any historical deviation, so perhaps you
should submit a patch.
