I somewhere found a patch concerning:

+Use Pentium-optimized copy routine
+CONFIG_M586_COPY
+ This enables special routines for copying and zeroing chunks of
+ memory that use the FPU to move 64 bit chunks of memory, which is
+ otherwise not possible on the Pentium processor. Depending upon
+ your particular system configuration, memory copy performance may
+ improve by 35% or so, giving an overall system performance
+ improvement of 5-10% in some situations. This routine also gives a
+ small performance improvement with at least some Pentium Pro
+ situations, but performance on non-Intel CPU's is unknown. With
+ S3 video cards, and probably some others, this can cause a system
+ panic if you read from the VGA range in /dev/kmem. If you don't
+ know what to do, answer N.
+

Does anyone know what the status is of this patch? Is it save to try?
