Has someone dug through the actual memory accounting within the kernel lately?
Is there any utilities out there that can track kernel memory usage and leaks?
The reported leaks might just be a mis-read of the accouting going on within
the kernel.

I'm suspecting that the swapper changes that went into 2.0.30 that was
backported from the 2.1 might be a good place to start. If I remember right,
it was to "prune" kswapd and friends a bit.. it might be possible that the
usage accounting got schwacked at the same time.

I'm not really seeing any leaks that I can tell (2.0.31-p10 / 2.1.56-CVS), but
then my systems are not stressed that much.

People are complaining of lag on my Quake server on 2.0.31-p10.. so there might
be some strange UDP thing going on.. tho I can't imagine much changed since
2.0.30.

OK, so you're a PhD - just don't touch anything.
