Linux swap behavior

Hello,

I have noticed this rather annoying behavior in Linux where, if I load a
very large binary, it starts swapping, but when the binary exits and the
memory is freed, the swap space is not deallocated. So I have a huge chunk
of free memory unused, but I am swapping. I think there is a kernel patch
to fix this behavior, I just forgot where I saw it. I am using kernel
2.0.30. Anyways, I'd appreciate any tips or help.

Cheers!
