no boot with 2.1.62 on Ppro

hello,
i have tryed several times now to get 2.1.62 working on my Ppro 200 box but
with no success (Yes i have removed the SMP flag). Kernel boots untils
some modprobes are done, and teh stops, the cursor is still blinking,
returns are accepted , caps lcok still works but nothing more happens,
after about 10min i did the reboot. (And virtual console and console on
terminal are enabled)....
anybody knows whats going wrong?
