SMP anomaly ??? (Was: problems with aic7xxx with 2.1.x)

Okay. What is this ? It is an ix86 SMP machine with 4 processors. What we
can see is that the numbering sequence of processors is 0, 1, 2 and ... 4 !
Why the fourth processor is not numbered 3 ?
I am not an SMP guru, but I think David can notice this anomaly and see
what is going on.
