I'm trying to track down some reported problems with NFS locking, and am
puzzled to find that lockd appears to depend on statd. If statd isn't
running, an attempt to do locking returns a "failed to monitor xxx"
message.
As I'm not familiar with what statd is supposed to do (and it doesn't
appear to have any docs), could you explain the connection between lockd
and statd and whether the dependency is really necessary?
Also, any chance you'll have some time to update the linux-nfs package
in the near future? Knfsd is now working reasonably well, and it would
be nice to get the support package ready in time for 2.2. (And maybe
Jeff Uphoff be persuaded to contribute a man page for statd?)
