To Wolfram Technical Support AND My Friends at Linux-kernel,

First, many thanks to those at linux-kernel who made suggestions about
my mathematica problem. The current status is:

Hardware: 200 MHz AMD K6 (serial # C9736EJAW) on Asus TXP4, 96 Mb ram.
Software: Linux kernel 2.0.33, Mathematica 3.0.1.1
Tests: Memtest86 1.3 ran through 7 passes (about 1 hr), no errors;
burnit script ran 151 passes (10 hours), no failures.

Computation of Kretschmann invariant for Kerr-Newman metric in Mathematica
Kernel text-only mode dies with Segmentation Fault after approximately 6
hours of computation (program size ~ 140 Mb, RSS ~ 90 Mb). Repeated
execution of Mathematica Kernel in same xterm session causes immediate
segmentation fault and system hang (no mouse tracking or keyboard response).

I am forced to conclude that a change of strategy is called for, and am now
embarking on a rewrite of the program in C++. If any of you have further
suggestions, or would like me to forward source or dumps to you, please
email me at koehlekr@ucrwcu.rwc.uc.edu.

Thank you for your time and help in this very frustrating matter!
