solid freeze with 2.1.79

i can reproduce the freeze every time i use ci -l <filename>
on an nfs mounted file system
if i don't use RCS , i don't see any freezes.

the nfs server is linux 2.0.33

this kernel is 2.1.79 + SMP + one vfat/sb patch
mount = 2.7g

my HW config:
Tyan Tomcat II dual P5-133 Mb.
AHA2940UW controller
IBM DORS 32160U disk
eepro100 NIC on 10Mbit net
